The Chairman of the Commission on trade commodity futures U.S. (CFTC) Heath Tarbert reported that the status of cryptocurrency XRP as a stock of goods or securities remains uncertain.

The President also announced that his office works closely with the SEC in the past year over the status of XRP. Simultaneously, he affirmed that bitcoin and Ethereum to securities not applicable.
«We have clearly stated that bitcoin is a commodity. But we didn’t say anything about Ethereum until that time. My opinion as chair is that air is a commodity» said Tarbert in October.
In 2018, a group of investors have sued the company emitted the XRP Ripple, arguing that it is engaged in the sale of unregistered securities. The proceedings continue. Ripple defends the position that XRP is not a security because it has characteristics of an investment contract.
